That felt like a stab in my back. One second I was so happy, all “aww, look at her working in fluffy socks and a cat sweater”, and then “AI took her job”. Reality flashing right in my face.
This chapter really got me thinking. It touches one of the biggest fears so many people have (me included.) And as much as I hate it, I also think AI is here to stay. Just like every other industrial shift, it takes jobs and creates new ones. The internet did the same.
I think AI will follow that same logic. The problem is that it asks more and more of us just to keep up: adapting constantly, faster and faster. And it’s mentally draining. Burnout and all!
Another good one. The same combo of social commentary and storytelling (I don't see the link to the chapter before but hope this is about to emerge as I go on.) I would love it if you explored this "AI took over everything" aspect more. How did it happen? Was it a gradual move or abrupt? Otherwise - wonderful!
That was well written and thought provoking. I know a lot of people across many industries (myself included) worry about the very real threat of AI to our jobs.
😢 sentiment felt… about the sand is a good point. Its main passive destruction is erasure of the total value sum of collective human output. Bright side is that is may flood all reality out of the internet & new human interactions can be made to flow… but its essentially turning things into dust, where the value just is so ambiguous now; prices reduce rapidly, people are suddenly “unimportant” or “non-essential” (where’ve I heard that before?)… personally I think it’s all an elaborate ploy by the information, military, & governmental sectors to covertly destroy the fabric of civilization & reshape into something far sinister, now that they have the means…
Incidentally, this is one of my greatest fears. I am extremely concerned that AI will take my job, as I work in design, and we know that any AI can now generate an image for you in seconds.

Let me know "afterwards" if you got your answers afterwards!

Wow, a lot to unpack!
Thank you for reading and sharing the thoughts that were "caused" by this chapter. I love that.
I lost my job in 2025. Mainly government related with a side of ahole boss.
Sorry to hear :( Maybe for the best? Hope you find something that suits you, without the stress.
I definitely upgraded. I am not a toxicly positive person but it was a universe redirection. And it motivated me to write my book too !
Well, then something great did come out of it at least!

AAH NOTIFICATIONS! I never saw this, sorry!
Oh yeah, I understand you. I think that when the dust settles, we will have learned to appreciate human art more and not less. Here's to hoping!
